WhatsApp has remained to be the best messaging app so far for all mobile platforms,Now it likely to end its support for some of the older mobile platforms.
WhatsApp has updated its FAQ page where it states that some older mobile platforms are no longer supported. They are Android versions older than 2.3.3, Windows Phone 7, iPhone 3GS/iOS 6 and Nokia Symbian S60.
New accounts and re-verifying of existing accounts are no longer possible on BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8.0 and older, Nokia S40 and Android 2.3.7 and older.
Support for these platforms will likely to end on the respective dates listed below:
- BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 until 31 December 2017
- Windows Phone 8.0 and older until 31 December 2017
- Nokia S40 until 31 December 2018
- Android 2.3.7 and older until 1 February 2020
The Facebook-owned app shares that it will no longer actively develop for these platforms and some features may stop working at any moment. These platforms lack the necessary capabilities required by the company to expand the app’s features in the future. As such, WhatsApp recommends users of these older mobile platforms to upgrade to a newer device with an updated OS version to continue using the instant messaging app.
